Evaluation question 7- Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the product?

Evaluation Question 6: What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation question 5- How did you attract your audience

Evaluation question 4- who would be the audience for your media product?

The results of my survey monkey has shown me that most people who like to watch thrillers are in the age rages of 17 - 21 years olds and these are the people who are most predominately to be watching television or films. As shown on my survey people who are older than 25 are not to keen in watching these types of films. Below is my other source of audience research and its called a wordle and this is jumble of words which people write down on what they think of the thriller and the bigger the word the more popular it is.

Evaluation Question 3: What kind of media institutions might distrubute your media product and why?

Props

In our thriller the props that we introduced were a mask, knife, Lamp and pictures.

The mask we got for the thriller was from ebay and it cost £4.50.

The knife was simply from someone kitchen, as we didn't have to put any expenses into the knife. The lamp was already at the location before we already got there and the picture we took when we was walking around places.

Title and Editing

Title

After a long discussion our group have decided that our thriller is called 'Watch your back' the name was very hard to decide on as we didn't know what to think but as the films about killing people from behind it was decided.

Editing

The editing of the thriller was very difficult at the start but after a while it was easy to figure out and after about a week the editing has nearly finished, I will just have to clean up a few areas and we also feel that we need to improve the last part of the film by re-fliming the dead people at the end.

The Ring

In the opening sequence of the Ring there is no music at all, however suspense still builds up as the characters walk down the corridoor, from this there is then a scream and out of no where a face appears on the screen, this leaves us unsure and bit shocked. Then it jumps to the titles that come on the screen flickering and they are very dark, then child music starts playing in the background which if anything it slightly freaks out the audience and really makes then uncomfortable, the music then goes into a more mordern but dark music, the overall sequence is suppose to make the audience very unconfortable from watching it.

Final Production

In our group we have decided this is our final production IDent that we have created.

Thursday, 26 January 2012

Panic Room

The opening sequence was very unique to other opening as it was different to many others.
The reason this was a different opening is because when the film started the names of the actors and producers in a 3D text along side the building.

The opening scene was a crane shot of different buildings in New York and it goes through New York and it still carries on with the 3D text. This gave the sequence it a very exciting looks towards it.

Garage Band

This is Garage Band, this programme is used to make song or tones, me and my group may use this to create a short bit of music for our thriller. The reason why our group choose garage band is that the program uses different sounds that could create a thriller based sequence for our particular thriller.

Analyse of Audience Research

For our audience research, we conducted a series of interviews of students/teachers and we also produced a survey for people to answer on survey monkey. After completing this we have found out that most people like either thrillers or comedy, this tells us that there is a large audience to aim at when making a thriller as a range of people answers our survey. This then means that we have to aim our thriller at a larger age range, after seeing these results I think that our thriller should be aimed at 12 - 18 year olds this is because the film with have very breif scenes of violence, or images therefore it is able to go as low as a 12 age range, but this also means 18 year olds may find it interested.

Survey Monkey

This is Survey Monkey and this is a program that is an easy way to make surveys, and our group used this website to get our target audience. Survey Monkey helped us to get a clear view what people like in films and mostly thrillers.

Interviews Target Audience

This is the final edited clip of the target audience interviews and in the first part of the interviews we had two people sitting down and then we decided to change this as we didn't like this so we just changed it to single interviews as we found it more comfortable and easier for the audience to give there answers.

Analysing Last year Thrillers

Positives
- There was a cliff hanger at the end as you didn’t know what happened to the boy who was in the closet.

Negatives
- The lightning in the shot of the bedroom, this is because it made it hard to see what was happening.
- They acted out a mugging in clear daylight, where everyone can see.
- Continuity error, when the main character came down the stairs, he came down the stair then in the next shot he came down the stair again.
- The edit was a bit basic, as it looked like the standard font they didn’t change it.

From watching this clip I have learned to concentrate more of factors such as the lightning when we are recording, because like you can see in this clip the lightning can effect the shot and makes it harder to see. Also to watch over the clip at the end, for editing because maybe they never watched over there clip and they never see their mistakes, the last factor is recording in the dark, this is because I believe that this will make the clip more shocking and build more suspense.

Cinematography!

Cinematography means the use of the camera in a film, this is all the different shots and camera movements used. These are the type of shots and camera movements that we will be using in our thriller.

Types of Shots:

  • Close up - This is mainly a shot of the face, this is used to show facial expression and emotion of the character.
  • Extreme close up - This shot is used to focus on a small part of something.
  • Midshot - This shot is normaly comprised of the head-waist of a character.
  • Long shot - This shot is used to show the whole of the characters body.
  • Extreme long shot - This shot is used to show the surroundings of something/someone.
  • Point of view shot - This shot allows you to see what the character sees.
  • High angle shot - This shot is looking down on the character, making the character seem to be weak and vulnerable.
  • Low angle shot - This shot is the character looking down to the camera, making the character superior and more powerful.
  • Over-the-shoulder shot - This shot looks over the characters shoulder, so you can see what they are looking at.
Types of camera movement:
  • Pan - Rotates from left to right.
  • Tilt - Tilts up and down.
  • Zoom - The camera moves towards the object but in a still position.
  • Tracking camera - The camera moves smoothly along a set of tracks.
  • Crane - The camera is placed on a large crane arm which allows it the have an over view of a large space/set and it is able to move round freely.
  • Rolling shot - The image becomes askew.
  • Steady cam - The camera is worn on a weighted harness to keep it still and balanced, which allows the someone to watch around with ease whilst wearing the harness.

Planning

In todays lesson we had to plan out a thriller based film but only the first 2-3 minutes of the sequence, and in todays lesson Myself, Jake Knowles and Charlie Spiers planned a thriller about a psyhcopath on a killing rampage and throughout the the film its going to have flash back of the people the killer has killed. There will be different technquies used while filming the sequence, this has taken alot of thought throughout the group, The filming will start to begin very soon when all the planning as finished.

Shadow of a Doubt. Hitchcock 1943

In the last lesson we watched a short clip on the shadow of a Doubt and it is another one of the hitchcock films. In this film there are two main characters which are Uncle Charlie which turns out to be the antagonist in the film and the other character is charley who is the protagonist.
The film starts with happy scenes and rich people dancing to a late classic song, which everyone seems happily dancing to throughout this scene and then its starts to go into a dissolve shoot and the music starts to change, also the scene start to change to a much more dusty and rough place with burnt out cars.
We then jump into a shoot were the camera is zooming into what looks like a hostel, this looks very poor and sleazy. The next part shows uncle charlie laying in a well branded suit while smoking a cigar. This gets the audience very confused as he's in a very expensive suit but staying in a hostel?
At his point the landlady comes in telling uncle charlie about two mysterious men waiting down stairs, But the men told the lady that they didn't want him to know that they was their as they wanted to surprise charlie.
From this when then realises that the two men are not charlie friends but they was just looking for him. When the landlord lady tells him this he doesn't even flitch but keeps calm at the same time this shows that charlie is also mysterious but cant just put your finger on him. The landlord lady then closes the blind to make the room more dim and dark and as soon as she leaves he starts to get up and this shows he's very sinister and all most like a vampire and he only gets up in the dark. Uncle charlie then starts to drink and after he throws the drink with force on the floor this shows his violent side.
He then looks outside to see the two men waiting for him outside, so he makes a quick exit down stairs were he then puts his head down and walks passed them sly as possible. The men didn't realises it was him until he gets half way down the road and they start to walk after him, more like a power walk even.
The net shoot comes across to be an overview on to some buildings and it shows charlie walking down an alley and the two men walking through it 5 minutes later but they split as they have lost him and cant seem to find him.
The two men then meet behind a back fence and the camera then rotates to charlie which he appears to be on top of the building. This shows that he is a very smart man as he has out witted the two men.
The next scene goes into a very civilised place and seems more rich and well brought up. The next shoots goes into the window just like uncle charlies scene but this time it goes into his niece Charley's window and she appears to be in the same position as uncle charlie when he was laying on the bed this shows that she's just like her uncle but later on in the film it shows they have different personalities.
